Franchot Park Youth Splash Disc Golf Tournament

9:30 am - 2:00 pm

The Olean Youth and Recreation Department and the Twin Tiers Disc Golf Club will hold a Youth Splash Tournament on Saturday, July 5th at Franchot Park.  The event is for kids ages 6-18, with a Registration Fee of $10.  Participants will receive a “Player’s Pack”, which includes a disc, water bottle, sunglasses and a coupons for pizza and Hi-Ho Ice Cream.  Registration starts at 9:30, with two rounds around the course.  Awards will be handed out at 1:45.  More information and registration is available at: www.discgolfscene.com

3rd Annual Seneca Caneadea Field Day

St. Paul's Lutheran Church Chicken BBQ

Great Valley Band Jam Day One

McKean County Fair's Sportsman's Raffle

Pfeiffer Nature Center's "Bat Night"

The Pfeiffer Nature Center invites you to explore the “World of Bats” with Dr. Jon Townsend, who will speak about the relationship bats have with plants, both locally and globally.  The program also features a live demonstration of bat survey equipment, using an ultrasonic microphone.  Come prepared for a night walk if you would like to take part in this portion of the program.  The event is free, but donations to the Pfeiffer Nature Center are always welcomed and appreciated!

3-Day Raise the Roof Extravaganza Event

The Country Baptist Church and the Schoolhouse Village Shops invites you to the 3-Day Raise the Roof Extravaganza Event, from 10am-5pm on July 10, 11 and 12, at 109 Indian Creek Road in Eldred. They will be raising funds to cover the cost of replacing the roof of the Church. They are raising funds to replace the church roof and keep the church home same, dry, and welcoming for everyone. 2nd Annual Hospitality Scholarship Golf Tournament

The 2nd annual Hospitality Scholarship Golf Tournament will take place Sunday, July 13, at Birch Run Golf Course in Allegany.  The tournament is an 18-hole scramble with a 9:00am Shotgun Start.  The cost is $75 per player, which includes golf, cart, and a Chicken BBQ dinner following golf.  Other fundraisers will be taking place during and after the event.  All proceeds will benefit the Greater Olean Area Hospitality Scholarship Fund, helping local students pursue college degrees, with a special focus on Hospitality-related careers.  Only 60 golfers will be accepted, so early registration in encouraged.

Kennedy Fire Department's 100 Year Celebration

The Kennedy, NY Fire Department celebrates 100 years of service with a full day of events at their Fire Hall and Fireman’s Grounds, on Saturday, July 19.  There’s events for the whole family, plenty of food, music and special celebrations.  The event begins at 11:00 with a car show…there’s a volunteer firefighters water battle at 1:00, and a pie-eating contest at 2:00.   A Fireworks Show caps off the night at 9:30.  The event also includes a take out-only chicken BBQ on Sunday, July 20, starting at noon until sold out.  More information and a schedule of events is available on the Kennedy Fire Department’s Facebook page.

Cuba Library's "Cheers, Cheese and Chocolate" Fundraiser

Olean City Cup Softball Tournament Registration Information

The City of Olean Youth and Recreation Department will hold its 50th annual City Cup Softball Tournament August 8-10, at Bradner Stadium and Forness Park.  Registration for teams is underway, with a deadline to enter of Friday, August 1, at 4:00.  The cost per team is $225…All rosters and entry fees must be turned into the Youth and Recreation Office, Room 109 in the City Building.

Jim Wetherby Memorial Golf Tournament

Registration for the annual Jim Wetherby Memorial Golf Tournament is underway.  The 4-persosn scramble takes place Saturday, August 23, at Allegheny Hills Golf Course, in Rushford…the 18-hole event begins with a shotgun start at 8:30am.  Included in the $70 fee are golf and cart, hole prizes, 50/50, raffles, hot dogs at the turn, and a dinner at the Cuba VFW.  All proceeds from the tournament are donated to various local and regional Veterans organizations.  You can sign up to play at the Cuba VFW, Route 305 in Cuba, or by calling Tom Burt at (716) 307-6340.  The tournament is sponsored by the Cuba VFW Auxiliary Post 2721, in the Memory of Past President Jim Wetherby.

The City of Olean Public Works Department will do a curbside pick-up of Yard Waste on the last Wednesday of the month, beginning April 30, and ending September 24.  There are some requirements:  All yard waste must be in paper bags…plastic bags will not be accepted.  Brush must be bundled with twine or rope…bundles can be no longer than 3 feet long, or 18 inches in diameter…and yard waste must be to the curb by 7am…for questions, or more information, contact the City Department of Public Works, at (716)376-5651.

Olean Area Farmers Market

The Olean Area Farmers Market is open for the season, in Olean’s Lincoln Park.  There are new hours this year, with the Market open from 9am-1pm on Saturdays.  The Market offers a wide variety of locally-produced products, from food to flowers and crafts.  The Market offers a credit card terminal, and will accept SNAP EBT Cards.  The Olean Farmer’s Market participates in the FreshConnect $2 Check Program, allowing SNAP Benefits users to double their money.  The Market only accepts farmers and crafter who produce their own products.  The Market will run through November 1, with two special holiday markets at Thanksgiving and Christmas.  More information can be found by contacting Rita Schichtel at:  farmersmarketofolean@gmail.com.
