Tri-County Arts Council September Class Schedule

The Tri County Arts Council has several classes set to run in the month of September on the following dates and times.  For registration and class fee schedule, go to:  www.tricountyartscouncil.org.

Thursday, September 5, 10-no0n:  ‘Handbuilding Clay”, with Geraldine Smith…This Class is for people ages 18 and up…This is a skill and knowledge-building course…Topics that will be covered include Stages of Clay workability, lid styles for covered containers…Style, size and placement of handles, feet and spouts…and joining smaller pieces together for a larger piece.

Saturday, September 7, 1-3pm: Photography, with Dan Jordan…This class will cover basics, camera settings, and composition tips.  The course is designed to let you take control of your camera, and not rely on AUTO mode.  Bring your DLRS cameras and lenses to the session.

Saturday, September 7, 1-3pm:  Ceramic Pumpkin, with Lisa Conklin…this two-session class will teach you how to make a 7″ hand-built pottery pumpkin, using the pinch pot method.  The pieces will be specially glazed and painted to create a one of a kind autumn piece.

Tuesdays, Starting September 10, 6-8pm:  Wheel Throwing, with Violet Nolder…This class is for artists ages 14+…The class provides students with a general understanding of basic beginner level throwing techniques.  If desired, bring your own aprons and hand towels.

Tuesdays, Starting September 10, 5-8pm:  Basic Stained Glass, with Linda Simons…this two-session class is for ages 16 and up…the class will teach the copper foil method of making stained glass pieces of art.

Thursday, September 19, 6-8pm:  Bob Ross Painting, with Eric Jones…Well known local artist Eric Jones teaches the unique and therapeutic painting style of one of America’s most beloved painters.  This class is for ages 12+

Saturday, September 21, 1-4pm:  Calligraphy, with Betsy Afton…learn the art of calligraphy with Betsy Afton, who has over 40 years experience with the art form.  Three different styles will be presented.  This class is for ages 12+

Tuesday, September 24, 6-8pm:  Grant writing…The Tri-County Arts Council’s Grant Writing Class is your gateway to securing essential funding for your community or organization.  This course provides you with the tools and knowledge needed to craft compelling grant proposals…this class is for ages 18+.

Saturday, September 28, 11am-1pm:  Rubber Duck Painting…Rubber Ducks bring a sense of childhood joy…Come paint with TCAC to bring a brightly colored momento to life!

Saturday, October 5, 1-3pm:  Acrylic Painting, with Barbara Boser…this two-session class allows you to dive into acrylic painting in a beginner-friendly class.  You will be guided through the process by experienced instructor Barbara Boser.  This class is for ages 12+

Euchre Tournament to Benefit The AACCD

Olean City Girls Youth Basketball League Registration

Northern Potter Cross Country & Track Teams 5k Race

7:30 am - 4:00 pm

The Northern Potter Cross Country and Track Teams 5k Run/Walk has been rescheduled for Saturday, October 12, at the high school.  This is an event for all ages, with a full 5k, a 2.5k and a free fun run for kids.  There are free t-shirts for registered participants, with medals and prizes, food, and a raffle.  Cost is $20.  Proceeds will benefit the teams, covering expenses for the team’s road meets, along with timing equipment, and other upgrades for the track.  Registration and check-in begin at 7:30, and the race starts at 9:30. October 5, 10-11am:  A Children’s Watercolor Painting Class…this free event is for kids ages 7-12, a fun and creative abstract fall watercolor tree painting class.  The Class is sponsored by the Witte Family, and is perfect for kids eager to express their creativity while learning basic watercolor techniques.  All materials are provided.

October 5 & 12, 1-3pm: Acrylic Painting with Barbara Boser…this class is for ages 12+.  Dive into acrylic painting in this beginner-friendly class, as you paint boats docked in front of lush forest, and a majestic mountain landscape, guiding by your experienced instructor.

October 8 and 22, 5-7pm:  Pumpkin Carving, with the one and only Eric Jones!  Eric will teach you the ins and outs of pumpkin carving.

October 12 & 26, 10-noon:  Ceramic Village Building, with instructor Violet Nolder…This is for ages 14+…a  beginner hand-building class.  Students will make a village house…make it a Fall or Winter theme, the choice is yours…house building in the first class, and painting in the second class.

October 19, 10:30-1:30:  Bread Basket Weaving, with Nicole Fair…This class is for ages 12+…learn how to weave a Bread Basket.  This basket can be used in any room of the house, but it’s perfect for breads, muffins, cookies and more.  Choose your colors to personalize your basket…it’s made with an oval base of approximately 14″.

October 24, 3:30-4:30pm:  Children’s Collage Class…this class is for kids ages 7-12.  It’s a hands-on adventure, with young artists diving into the beauty of Autumn by creating colorful, textured collages inspired by the season’s trees.

October 26, 11-2:  Encaustic, with instructor Merry Ryding…this class is for ages 15+.  Encaustic is a hot wax medium…learn techniques to use this translucent wax medium with paper scraps and other lightweight material.  Work is done on an 8×8 wood block.

October 29-December 10, 5-7pm:  Wheel Throwing, with instructor Abby Zickefoose…this class is for ages 14+.  The class will meet on Tuesday nights, execpt for November 26.  The class provides students with a general understanding of  basic beginner-level throwing techniques.  If desired, bring your own aprons and hand towels.

City of Olean Heavy Rain Storm Suggestions

The City of Olean is requesting all connected to the city’s Water and Sewage services to observe the following suggestions, to limit the amount of matter flowing through the sewer system during heavy rain storms.  Observing these suggestions could help prevent the overflow of raw sewage from getting into the Allegheny River, and avoid a situation of sewage backing up into your personal systems.

    1.  Hold off on flushing toilets
    2.  Hold off on showering
    3.  Hold off on doing laundry or washing dishes
