The Rushford Volunteer Fire Department will hold a ‘Fly-in’ Breakfast on Saturday, May 10, from 8am-noon, at the Wellsville Municipal Airport.  Volunteers will serve up an all-you-can-eat Pancake Breakfast.  The breakfast is open to the public-flying or driving!

A  benefit for cancer patient Don Dempsey will take place Saturday, May 10, from 1-5pm, at the Olean Moose Lodge, on West State Street…the day includes numerous fundraisers, basket raffles, music, and a Chicken BBQ.  Chicken BBQ Pre-sale tickets are now available…dinners will be sold at the fundraiser, subject to availability.  All proceeds will go directly to Don and his family to help cover medical and personal expenses.

The Ischua Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary will hold a Craft and Vendor Show on Saturday, May 10, from 10-3 at the Bingo Hall on Route 16.  The day also includes a Chicken BBQ for $15, and a Hot Dog Meal, as well.  The Auxiliary will also have raffle tickets for a gun sale available at the show.  You can reserve a Chicken BBQ by contacting any member of the Auxiliary, or by calling Stephanie Whittaker at (716)432-2093, or Helen Morris at (716) 229-9405.

The Greater Olean Area Chamber of Commerce holds its annual Community Wide Garage Sale on Saturday, May 10…the hours of the sale will be from 9am-4pm.  Residents in the Olean, Allegany, Portville and Hinsdale communities who want to be included on the Chamber Map must register with Greater Olean no later than noon, Wednesday, May 7.  There is a $7.50 fee to register.  You can sign up in person at the Chamber offices, 301 North Union Street, or online at:  www.oleanny.com/garagesales.  Area maps and the official list of locations of Garage Sales will be available at the Chamber offices Thursday and Friday.  The listings will also be available online.

The Allegany County Firemen’s Auxiliary will meet on Thursday, May 15, at the Duke Hose Company, on Stevens Street in Wellsville.  The meeting starts at 6:30 with a Tureen Dinner…please bring a dish to pass and your own table service.  This meeting will include the election of officers for the year.

May is Mental Health Month…several local organizations invite the public to a Veteran and Community Wellness Fair, taking place Friday, May 16, from 11am-2pm.  The fair takes place at Jamestown Community College’s Cattaraugus County Campus in Olean.  The fair includes Wellness Checks, Veteran resources, Caregiver resources, even free hair cuts.  The Fair is sponsored by JCC, the Joseph P. Dwyer Veterans Peer Support Project, Directions In Independent Living, the St. Bonaventure University Veterans Services, and the Veterans Crisis Line.

The John J. Coudersport-based Pennsylvania State Police will team up with UMPC-Cole to sponsor a Child Safety Seat Check on Friday, May 23, from 9am-3pm.  The location is the UMPC-Cole Parking Lot in Coudersport.  Each check should take about 30 minutes to complete.  Please bring your safety seat, vehicle manual and child safety seat instructions with you.  If you cannot make the date, but would like your child safety seats inspected, call the Coudersport Barracks to set up an appointment (814) 274-8690.

American Legion Potter Post #192 will hold a Memorial Day Service on Monday, May 26…the event begins with a parade from Allegany Avenue to Main Street to Courthouse Square.  The parade begins at 11:00am, with Full Military Honors taking place at Courthouse Square.  Pennsylvania Representative Martin T. Causer will be the guest speaker, and music will be provided by the Coudersport High School Band.  A Luncheon will follow the ceremonies at the Legion.

Registrations are now being taken for the Kightlinger Open 2025 Golf Scramble.  The 4-person scramble takes place Sunday, June 1, at Coudersport Golf Club.  The Tournament has a 10:00 shotgun start, and proceeds go to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis.  The cost is $50 for Coudersport Club Members, and $60 for non-members.  For more information, or to register, contact A.J. The June Bloom Makers Market Craft Fair and Vendor Show will take place Saturday, June 14, from 9-3, inside the Cuba First Baptist Church.  Multiple Vendors will be set up with homemade and hand-crafted items.  The event is FREE and open to the public.

The Olean Youth and Recreation Department is holding a Cornhole Tournament Fundraiser on Saturday, June 21st, starting at 1:00, at the William O. The City of Olean Public Works Department will do a curbside pick-up of Yard Waste on the last Wednesday of the month, beginning April 30, and ending September 24.  There are some requirements:  All yard waste must be in paper bags…plastic bags will not be accepted.  Brush must be bundled with twine or rope…bundles can be no longer than 3 feet long, or 18 inches in diameter…and yard waste must be to the curb by 7am…for questions, or more information, contact the City Department of Public Works, at (716)376-5651.

The Hinsdale American Legion will be serving Fish Frys every Friday from 5-8pm, beginning Friday, March 14.  Dinners cost $14, and include French Fries, Coleslaw and a Roll.
