Olean High School and the Olean Intermediate Middle School are teamming up with the Olean Sports Boosters Club for a benefit raffle for cancer patient and 10th grader Sophie Laborde.   The $1,500 dollar prize package includes a new Yeti Cooler, and $200 gift card from Angees restaurant, and swag items from Studio 4 East, the St. Bonaventure Bookstore, and the Sports Locker.  Also in the prize package is a pair of seats to a St. Bonaventure Men’s Basketball game located behind the team bench.  Tickets are $40 each, with just 200 available.  The drawing takes place Wednesday, October 15, and will be streamed live via Facebook.  Tickets are available at the Olean Intermediate Middle School Main Office, by contacting Olean Sports Boosters Treasurer Meme Yanetsko at (716) 378-6951, or from Suzie Broadbent at Olean High School.  For more information, contact Maureen DiCerbo at:  mdicerbo@oleanschools.org

St. Paul’s Lutheran Churh in Ellicottville will serve up a Carson’s Chicken BBQ on Friday, October 17, from 11:30-5;00 at their location on Route 242.  $18 gets you a 1/2 chicken and two side dishes…drinks are also available.  The dinners will be sold until 5:00, or until they are sold out.

The Olean Youth and Recreation Department presents “The Spooky Island Halloween Safety Show on Friday, October 17, at the former St. John’s School on North Union Street,  There are two shows, at 4:30 and 6:00, featuring popular kids and family entertainer Checkers the Inventor.  These shows include audience participation, and lots of fun for all ages.  For more information, check the Youth and Recreation Department’s social media pages.

Teacher’s Pet Rescue of Coudersport will hold an adoption event on Saturday, October 18, from 10-5, at Carp Park in Coudersport.  It’s a spooky family fun night, with vendors, games and raffles, along with the chance to adopt a new pet.  For more information, check out their Facebook Page.

The Olean Youth and Recreation Department will hold “Learn To Skate” lessons at the William O. That’s A Wrap Entertainment Services and Just Vibe Events invites you to their Free all-ages “Spooktacular Gathering” on Sunday, October 26, from 3-7pm, at the Allegany Rec Center on North 4th Street.  The event will have a Spooky walk-through, vendor candy stations, Halloween activities, face painting and a costume contest with prizes!

The Olean Area Farmers Market is open for the season, in Olean’s Lincoln Park.  There are new hours this year, with the Market open from 9am-1pm on Saturdays.  The Market offers a wide variety of locally-produced products, from food to flowers and crafts.  The Market offers a credit card terminal, and will accept SNAP EBT Cards.  The Olean Farmer’s Market participates in the FreshConnect $2 Check Program, allowing SNAP Benefits users to double their money.  The Market only accepts farmers and crafter who produce their own products.  The Market will run through November 1, with two special holiday markets at Thanksgiving and Christmas.  More information can be found by contacting Rita Schichtel at:  farmersmarketofolean@gmail.com.

The Cuba VFW Post 2721 Auxiliary will hold a meat party on Friday, November 7, at the VFW Events Center.  Free hot dogs, chili and snacks…Beer bands available for $5.  Along with the meat raffles, there will also be basket raffles.  The raffles start at 7:00.

McKean Residents Auxiliary is doing a Fall Bazaar at Sena Kean-Manor, 17083 Rt 6 Smethport, on November 15, 2025. The time is 9am-2pm. They are currently looking for vendors. The Allegany County Office for the Aging is seeking volunteers to man their Tax Counseling for the Elderly Program.  The program offers free income tax assistance for low to moderate-income Allegany County residents.  Volunteer Tax Counselors are trained and certified to help people who are ages 55 and over.  The Office for the Aging partners with AARP and the IRS to provide this service.  If you are interested in joining the team of volunteers, call (585) 268-9390, and ask for Karen.

The City of Olean Youth Bureau and Recreation Department will begin its 2025/’26 Fall-Winter After School Recreation Program on Wednesday, September 3.  The After School Program runs Monday-Friday, from 3-5:30pm, at 921 North Union Street, the former St. John School.  The program operates throughout the school year, with healthy snacks provided.  Among the activities are Foosball, Ping-Pong, Air Hockey, Board Games, Basketball, Arts & Crafts, and help with homework.  All of this is provided free of charge.  For more information, call (716)376-5698.
