The Olean General Hospital Auxiliary will hold its Memorial Butterfly Release on Friday, August 8th, at 3:00, at the Hospital.  The event was created to honor the memory of loved ones by releasing butterflies near the St. Francis Heritage Garden at OGH.  Butterflies are limited, and must by reserved by Monday, August 4.  Butterflies are $20 each…to reserve your butterfly, contact Erica at (716) 375-7377, or email:  edreher@ogh.org.

The 2nd Annual “Adult Prom” to benefit foster care in Cattaraugus will be held on August 9, from 6-11pm at Woodside Taver on the Range. Dinner will be catered by Toad’s Butcher Shop, there will be 50/50 and basket raffles for purchase, and a door prize donated by Ask Design Jewelers. Tickets are $40 for singles, or $60 for couples. Core:  The Learning Center will hold a big fundraiser on Saturday, August 9, from 8am-3pm at their Belmont location.  The event includes vendors, a large basket raffle, 50-50’s, Big Ticket Items, free kids carnival games and more.  There will be food trucks onsite, and the Beef Haus will be serving up pre-sale only Beef-on-Weck dinners.  The dinners are $17 each…to order, call (585) 268-5213, extension 1006.  You do not have to be present to win.

The City of Olean’s Franchot Park Wading Pool will begin regular Summer hours on Saturday, June 21, through Sunday, August 10.  The hours are daily, from 11-2, and again from 2:30-5:00.  All hours are subject to weather conditions.  The complete schedule is available online at the City of Olean website.

The Humphrey Volunteer Fire Company holds its annual Blueberry Day on Sunday, August 10, with breakfast served from 8am-noon at the Firehall.  You get all-you-can-eat Blueberry Pancakes, real Maple Syrup, Sausage, Orange Juice, Coffee and Milk for just $8.  Kids under the age of 5 are free.  Along with the breakfast, there’s Blueberry Baked Goods for sale, and available all day.  You can also take part in the other fundraisers, including a 50-50 drawing and the “Mystery Basket Raffle”.  For more information, call (716) 207-4874.

The annual Southwestern New York/Northwestern Pennsylvania Men’s Amateur Tournament is set to take place at Olean’s Bartlett County Club from Wednesday, August 6 through Sunday, August 10.  The entry fee for the tournament is $160, and includes at least two rounds of golf and a dinner Wednesday afternoon, following qualifying.  The Men’s Amatuer will also feature the Past Winners Shootout, set to take place Tuesday, August 5.   Along with the normal flights, there are special consolation brackets, and a 65 and over bracket.

Proceeds from the tournament benefit four local charities:  The Rehabilitation Center, HomeCare & Hospice, Brady’s Cause, and the Olean General Hospital Foundation.  Proceeds also pay the entry fees for 15 players who qualify from the Penn-York Junior Golf League, and the John Henzel Memorial Scholarship, which is awarded to a golfer or golfers from a Big 30 School.

The Genesee Library will hold its 6th annual Community Picnic on Thursday, August 14, from 4-8pm at the Library.  The event will include a picnic that serves up hot dogs, hamburgers or Italian sausage with sides…BD Concessions will be there with fresh-squeezed lemonade, while Zets will serve up Italian Ice.  There’s also a Library Bag Auction, Kids Games, and music.  To top if off, there’s a free ice cream bar!  Proceeds benefit the Genesee Library.

St. Paul’s Lutheran Church of Ellicottville will serve up a Carson’s Chicken BBQ on Friday, August 15, with Chicken available from 11:30 until 5:00, or until sold out.  Dinners include a half-chicken and two sides, for $18 per dinner.  Proceeds go towards the church’s Parking Lot Project.

St. Bonaventure University’s Regina A. A group called “Heroic Heath Cans of Hope” have started a can drive donation effort to help fund several organizations that support local non-profit programs that help cancer patients and their families.  Donations of cans will be accepted at two businesses:  The Allegany Beverage & Redemption Center, 3250 NYS Route 417, in Olean, and the Portville Tollgate Redemption Center, 489 Portville-Ceres Road in Portville.   When turning in your cans, you must specify that they are for the Heroic Heath Cans of Hope.  The group will also accept Venmo Donations to:  @Julie-Kenyon-66.  Can Donations will be accepted through Setember 13.

Proceeds from the donations will help support Wings Flights of Hope; Camp Good Days; Keeley Kares For Kids, and the Michael Napoleone Memorial Foundation.

The Fannie E. The Cattaraugus County Health Department has scheduled a series of FREE Rabies Vaccination Clinics for the month of September.  Each clinic will be held from 4:30-7:00, and will be for dogs, cats and domesticated ferrets.  There is no charge, but the Health Department will accept donations to offset the cost of running the clinics.  If  you would like more information, call (716) 701-3386.  The schedule of clinics:

The City of Olean Public Works Department will do a curbside pick-up of Yard Waste on the last Wednesday of the month, beginning April 30, and ending September 24.  There are some requirements:  All yard waste must be in paper bags…plastic bags will not be accepted.  Brush must be bundled with twine or rope…bundles can be no longer than 3 feet long, or 18 inches in diameter…and yard waste must be to the curb by 7am…for questions, or more information, contact the City Department of Public Works, at (716)376-5651.

The Olean Area Farmers Market is open for the season, in Olean’s Lincoln Park.  There are new hours this year, with the Market open from 9am-1pm on Saturdays.  The Market offers a wide variety of locally-produced products, from food to flowers and crafts.  The Market offers a credit card terminal, and will accept SNAP EBT Cards.  The Olean Farmer’s Market participates in the FreshConnect $2 Check Program, allowing SNAP Benefits users to double their money.  The Market only accepts farmers and crafter who produce their own products.  The Market will run through November 1, with two special holiday markets at Thanksgiving and Christmas.  More information can be found by contacting Rita Schichtel at:  farmersmarketofolean@gmail.com.
