The Greater Olean Area Chamber of Commerce is searching for floats for this year’s Santa Claus Lane Parade, set to take place Friday, November 29, starting at 6:30. The parade committee encourages any and all area organizations and businesses to participate with a float, a musical unit, or a display of historical/public vehicles in the parade. October 5, 10-11am: A Children’s Watercolor Painting Class…this free event is for kids ages 7-12, a fun and creative abstract fall watercolor tree painting class. The Class is sponsored by the Witte Family, and is perfect for kids eager to express their creativity while learning basic watercolor techniques. All materials are provided.
October 5 & 12, 1-3pm: Acrylic Painting with Barbara Boser…this class is for ages 12+. Dive into acrylic painting in this beginner-friendly class, as you paint boats docked in front of lush forest, and a majestic mountain landscape, guiding by your experienced instructor.
October 8 and 22, 5-7pm: Pumpkin Carving, with the one and only Eric Jones! Eric will teach you the ins and outs of pumpkin carving.
October 12 & 26, 10-noon: Ceramic Village Building, with instructor Violet Nolder…This is for ages 14+…a beginner hand-building class. Students will make a village house…make it a Fall or Winter theme, the choice is yours…house building in the first class, and painting in the second class.
October 19, 10:30-1:30: Bread Basket Weaving, with Nicole Fair…This class is for ages 12+…learn how to weave a Bread Basket. This basket can be used in any room of the house, but it’s perfect for breads, muffins, cookies and more. Choose your colors to personalize your basket…it’s made with an oval base of approximately 14″.
October 24, 3:30-4:30pm: Children’s Collage Class…this class is for kids ages 7-12. It’s a hands-on adventure, with young artists diving into the beauty of Autumn by creating colorful, textured collages inspired by the season’s trees.
October 26, 11-2: Encaustic, with instructor Merry Ryding…this class is for ages 15+. Encaustic is a hot wax medium…learn techniques to use this translucent wax medium with paper scraps and other lightweight material. Work is done on an 8×8 wood block.
October 29-December 10, 5-7pm: Wheel Throwing, with instructor Abby Zickefoose…this class is for ages 14+. The class will meet on Tuesday nights, execpt for November 26. The class provides students with a general understanding of basic beginner-level throwing techniques. If desired, bring your own aprons and hand towels.
